The have been serving every household in Guyana with healthy products for the past 50 years and can only get better, so says
Managing Director of the National Milling Company of Guyana (NAMILCO), Mr. Bert Sukhai.
Through Coordinator, Mr. Affeeze Khan, it has been revealed that in commemoration of the company’s 50th Anniversary, they would be embarking on a huge sports programme aimed at giving back to the communities.
The first such programme is set for Sunday May 26th next at the Albion Community Center Ground which is expected to be packed to capacity in the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club organized activity where athletics (track and field), volleyball, softball cricket and cycling would be contested.
Known for their exceptional organizing abilities especially in cricket, the club, under the astute guidance of Hilbert Foster MS is promising a day of unforgettable action with 17 Berbice Secondary and 40 Primary Schools set to battle each other in various events.
Among the aims of this event are to promote athletics as an alternative to a life on the road for youths in the ancient county; promotion of social cohesion among the youths; promotion of the importance of physical fitness at a young age; identifying promising athletes for further training and possible sponsorship from the private sector and to promote positive rivalry among the schools at both levels in Region 6.
Some of the events include 100m, 200m, 400m, 1500m, 3000m, 4x100m relay along with 1500m and 5000m cycling will all be served up. Trophies, medals and cash incentives would be at stake in the various events. The Guyana Teachers Union
Volleyball, organized by the most active association in Guyana, Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA), would be played at the Albion Hard Court. First, second and third place teams would be rewarded while the softball cricket would see the top two teams being rewarded as will the man-of-the-match.
