The Fourth annual Corona Futsal tournament, sponsored by Top Brandz and Rose Ramdehol continued on Tuesday with the second night of group
round-robin action at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue and Princes Street.
The evening’s play saw Beacons Football Club (BFC) losing their second consecutive match after they were pounded 7-2 by Back Circle. Selwyn Williams netted a hat-trick for the winners while he was supported with one goal each from Stephan McLean, Trayon Babb, Dellon Kelly and Quason McAulay. Kimba Braithwaithe and Joshua Nicholas scored one-a-piece for Beacons.
Leopold Street registered the biggest margin of victory with a 6-0 thumping of Mocha. Leopold had six different players inking their names on the score sheet in Okenny Fraser, Eon Alleyne, Darren Benjamin, Cecil Jackman, Carl Tudor and Rishwan Sandiford.
Hubert Pedro was the hero for West Front Road that needled North East while the first hat-trick of the night, which was registered by Anthony Abrams, propelled Tiger Bay to a 4-1 win over Tucville. Deon Alfred scored the other goal for Tiger Bay and Nicholas McArthur scored the consolation for the losers.
Two of the six games contested on Tuesday finished as draws. First, the highly anticipated clash between Bent Street and Future Stars petered out to a 2-2 finish with Sheldon Holder and Daniel Wilson finding the back of the net for Bent Street while Jamal Cozier and William Europe were on target for Future Stars.
The other clash between crowd favourite Sparta Boss and California Square saw Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson scoring the opener for Sparta but Mishack Buretta found the equalizer one minute before stoppage time for California Square.
The teams that come out on top in the group stages will be awarded as follows: 1st $40,000; 2nd $30,000; 3rd $15,000, and 4th $10,000. The winner of the tournament will pocket $500,000 while the losing finalist will receive $250,000. Third place is $125,000 while 4th will have to settle for $75,000. Play in the group stage will continue on Saturday, see fixtures below.
