With help from Youth Hoops Basketball Clinic, the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) was able to shortlist the best five male Under-17 players to represent this nation at the International Basketball Federation’s (FIBA) Caribbean Development Camp in Puerto Rico, which is being sponsored by footwear and apparel giants,
Nike.
Yesterday, President of the GABF, Mike Singh, disclosed that independent body, Youth Hoops which held basketball clinics in Georgetown and Linden last week, volunteered to pick the best five players and the GABF obliged.
Singh explained that this was allowed since the GABF wants to be fair and avoid any conflict of interest since coaches on their selection panel may favour their own players from their clubs. The players selected for the regional camp set for July 11-12, 2019 are Lugard Mohan Jr., Timothy Richmond, Kadeem Dover, Rayon Short and Emanuel Atherley.
Singh, who is in his first year as President of the GABF, revealed to Kaieteur Sport that the national Under-17 team has been invited to Turks and Caicos to play in a tri-series with the host and the Bahamas, July month-end.
To this end, an additional 10 players have been shortlisted and they will begin training along with the Elite five this and every other weekend at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) with guidance from Coach Lugard Mohan.
Those 10 players are: Jamal Nicholas, Kahil Ferrington, Elijah David, Kareem Whitney, Gabriel Lim, Ming Wong, Josiah Roberts, Lamon Friday, DaMarcus Adams, and Stephan Deleon.
