One of the Directors of the Pele FC Alumni, former National player Patrick ‘Labba’ Barton has informed that their Third Annual Youth Development Programme has kicked off in resounding fashion at the St. Joseph’s High School, yesterday.
Barton said that all 91 youths registered showed up and they had a full day of interaction with the various presenters.
“During each of the presentations, there was welcome interaction between the presenters and the kids who attended particularly when it came to the digital literacy session. These kids were on top of their game in terms of answering questions and posing many questions of their own to the presenter. We look forward to having these kids again today and having more interactive sessions.”
It was also disclosed that lots of gifts which included various reading books, puzzles and three laptops
were given to the kids for answering and posing questions and for being brave when called upon.
Two boys and one girl were presented with laptops for standing out when called up. Among the presenters were Ms. Dawn Braithwaite (Director of Training at Camex Restaurants) who lectured on Non-Violent Communication and Transition to Adult Life; Marcia Gerard who presented on Digital Literacy; Dr. Aaron Fraser who spoke on Career Choices and former Guyana Olympic Association Secretary General, Ivor O’Brien who spoke on Preparing for an Interview.
Today, participants would be taken through the paces of Health and Wellness which would be presented by the Guyana Amateur Power Lifting Federation and this afternoon, the youths would be taken on a guided tour at Banks DIH Limited, Thirst Park.
This year’s programme will wrap up tomorrow following sessions on conflict Resolution and Social Etiquette.
Attending the programme are the six children who are benefitting from the Pele FC Alumni Scholarship Programme, Santos FC, GFC, Beacons FC, Black Pearl FC, St Steven’s School, East Bank Football Association, 35 from the ministry of Education and from other sporting disciplines.
