A fine unbeaten century from Bhumeshwar Ramkissoon coupled by a six-wicket haul from Gladewin Henry Jr handed host Good Success/Sans Souci/Jaguars a 132-run victory over Zeelandia/Maria’s Pleasure when the Wakenaam Cricket Committee/Mike’s Pharmacy and Trophy Stall U19 40-over tournament continued on Saturday last.
Following Good Success/Sans Souci/Jaguars insertion at the Wakenaam Community Centre ground, openers Devon Ramrattan and Mahase Ramnarine added 37 for the opening stand before Ryan Atkinson handed Zeelandia/Maria’s Pleasure the breakthrough by having Ramnarine caught for 31 with four fours and one six. The visitors then picked up some quick wickets, including that of Clive Antonio for 20, which included four fours, to reduce the home team to 110-6. However, Ramkissoon and Mohandass Surujpaul steadied the innings nicely with sensible batting. The duo put on an unfinished seven-wicket stand of 183 to guide their team to a challenging 293-6 from their reduced quota of 35 overs. The right-handed Ramkissoon slammed 16 fours
and seven sixes in a top score of 136, while Surujpaul made 31 not out with four fours. Atkinson took 2-32 and Direndra Sitaram 2-42.
In reply, Purvendra Singh and Dreshon Clements added 40 for the opening stand before Singh was run out for 11. Clements hit one four and three sixes before he was bowled by Dequan Clarke for 27, while Ramnarine removed Ricky Persaud cheaply to leave the score on 64-3. Left arm spinner Henry Jr then sliced through the middle and lower order as Zeelandia/Maria’s Pleasure were bowled out for 161 in 29 overs. Ramveer Ramnarine made 21 not out with three fours and one six, while Puvendra Singh and Samuel Narine contributed 14 and 11 respectively as Henry Jr finished with 6-22 from seven overs; there was one wicket each for Devendra Hansraj, Ramnarine and Clarke. The competition continues on Saturday.
