The Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Den Amstel, defending champions Fruta Conquerors and Western Tigers were all winners when co
mpetition in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League Season 4 continued recently.
GDF blanked new kid on the block Santos FC 3-0 on Sunday last at the Den Amstel ground, the latter losing momentum after coming off a draw with Western Tigers. Goals for the Army were scored by Darrell George in the 19th minute, Delroy Fraser in the 22nd and Olvis Mitchell on the stroke of full time.
The other match contested at that venue saw the home team arresting the Guyana Police Force FC 2-0 following a first half that did not produce any goals. Breaking the deadlock on 60 minutes was the home team’s most lethal marksman, Delon Lanferman.
That advantage was doubled when Jamal Harvey tucked one past Roncy Caleb who took care of business for Police between the uprights, Harvey netting in the 87th minute to seal full points for Den Amstel.
Despite being reduced to ten players as a result of a second yellow card for Rondel Hutson (29 & 82), Den Amstel were still able to keep Police at bay.
On Thursday last at the Georgetown Football Club ground, Western Tigers blanked Ann’s Grove United 2-0 thanks to a Randolph Wagner brace, the result kept the East Coast Demerara side winless so far this season.
It was Wagner’s second double of the season after scoring both in his sides draw with Den Amstel. Against Ann’s Grove, he scored in the 59th and 90+3rd minute.
Fruta Conquerors were in a very dismissive mood in their match against Buxton United, winning by a healthy 5-1 margin. On target for the defending champions were Gregory Richardson with a brace in the 4th and 29th minutes, Nicholas Mc Arthur in the 6th minute, while the other two came off the boots of Quincy Adams in the 54th and Vurlon Mills in the 69th minute.
Buxton’s consolation goal came with two minutes remaining in regulation time and scored by Omari Glasgow.
