Since its formation in 1990, the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS has had over two thousands pass through its membership and many of them continues to give back on a regular basis to the organisation which has played a major role in shaping their lives. Michael Trim, who now lives in the United States of America, represented the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club for close to two decades as a productive left handed opening batsman and part time right hand offspinner. Trim scored over 4,000 runs and took 153 wickets for the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club. On Wednesday last, he remembered his roots by donating four new cricket bats to the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS at the cost of about $150,000.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster, who had served as Trim’s Cricket Manager, stated that Trim along with players like Neil Williams, James Fraser, Joseph Arokium, Raymond Cecil, Desmond Fraser, Shawn Grant, Renwick Batson, Ingram Dey, Michael Rengasami among others has laid the foundation for the current generation to built on. He recalled that Trim was a senior member of the Club when it won its first three titles at the Second Division level in 1992, 1993 and 1994. Over the years, Trim also captained the Rose Hall Town
Youth & Sports Club at both the Second and First Division levels with great success. Trim’s ability also saw him represented Berbice at the Senior Inter-county level.
Vice President Mark Papannah, who received the donation from Trim, hailed the former RHTYSC Member for remembering his roots. Papannah stated that he was pleasantly surprised when Trim contacted him about the donation.
Trim, he noted was pleased with his past association with Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation and even prouder if its outstanding work among youths, the elderly and less fortunate. The bats would be used by the Club as part of its 29th Annual Award Ceremony now scheduled for the 12th May, 2019.
Meanwhile, the ten cricket teams of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club continue to make positive differences as part of their personal developmental programme. The teams firstly donated a large set of gifts Year Two and Year Three Students of the Social Work Faculties of the University of Guyana, Tain Campus. The donations at the request of Students were to assist them to host a Day of Fun for Senior Citizens in Berbice. The teams also donated kites to the Community Officer of the Rose Hall Town Police Outpost. The kites would be distributed to less fortunate children by the Police while the teams themselves would share out kites to hundreds. Asst Secretary/CEO Simon Naidu who coordinated the donation stated that several schools also received donations of cricket balls to assist them to hold practical sessions.
The ten cricket teams: “King Solomon Logistic Under-12, Poonai Pharmacy Under-13, Farfan & Mendes Under-15, Bakewell Under-17 and Second Division, Pepsi Under-19 and Intermediate, Metro Females, Gizmos & Gadgets Under-21 and First Division” are mandated to undertake hundreds of events to make positive differences every year by the Management of the Club.
