Guyana’s 18-member local squad for this year’s Carifta Games departed for the Cayman Islands on Tuesday evening for the competition which will be contested this Easter Weekend. Accompanying the athletes are three coaches namely, Julian Edmonds, Raymond Daw and Moses Pantlitz who has funded his own airfare and accommodation.
All the locally based athletes with the exception of Sheama Tyrell and Wesley Tyndall had qualified for the Games after three separate weekends of Carifta Trials hosted by the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG).
However, according to head of the AAG, Aubrey Hutson, after impressive showings that were above the Carifta Standard (CS) by Tyndall and Tyrell at the last week’s National College’s Athletics Championships (NCAC), the two athletes were included in the team.
Tyndall was also a direct replacement for 100m Sprinter, Osrick Pellew, who picked up an injury in training last week.
