Police on the Essequibo Coast are investigating the strange circumstances, surrounding the death of a 38 years old father last Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Gowkaran Narine, better known as Paul, of Painter Street, Reliance, Essequibo Coast. It is believed that the father of four died as a result of an injury to the neck, which some claim was caused by a piece of fire wood.
Based on reports reaching this publication, during the morning hours of last Friday, Narine was at his Reliance home imbibing with his friends and younger brother. About midday that day, while the man was cutting firewood with an axe, relatives claim that a wooden chip penetrated the side of Narine’s neck.
According to relatives the injury seemed not to be fatal and Paul went to bed. During the afternoon the next day, however, family members realized that he was not responding to their calls. Thinking that the man had suffered a seizure, which was sometimes usual, relatives tried to revive him but again got no response.
Narine was rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. In the meantime, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at G – Divisional Headquarters in Anna Regina are investigating the circumstances leading to the man’s death.
The dead man’s wife is assisting police with investigations. His body is at the Onderneeming Mortuary awaiting an autopsy.
