Lekhnarine ramps up the top spot in Inaugural Ramps Logistics golf tournament

A fabulous Saturday, perfect temperatures and a significant turnout of golfers all eager to claim bragging rights in the inaugural Ramps Logistics Guyana Inc. golf tournament, finished with a shootout that left just one golfer at the top of the leaderboard – Massy Gas Managing Director, Lekhnarine Shivraj.
Meanwhile, Ramps Logistics Director, Marisca Jordan, on hand to present the prizes along with reputable fashion designer and author Sonia Noel, noted that, “Ramps Logistics is committed to the development of golfing in Guyana, and to adding our influence and support so that world class standards, similar to those held by Ramps Logistics, would be realized in optimum time at the Lusignan Golf Club.”
Played under the Medal Play 3-Flight system, prizes were awarded winners for 1st and 2nd Best Net in each Flight, in addition to a Best Gross score, Longest Drive, and Nearest The Pin. The overall Best Net scorer was the tournament Champion.

In the 0 – 14 Flight, fierce battles continued amongst the top players with Patrick Prasad edging Club President Aleem Hussain by one shot to take the Best Gross score honors. However, due to a last minute adjustment of the flight format by the Captain, it was journeyman David Harry who pulled off the upset in the flight by shooting a net 69 to beat out Aleem Hussain and Patrick Prasad who tied with net 72 where Hussain’s betterback-9 score gave him the net edge. Winners in this Flight were: D. Harry (69/14) – 1st; A. Hussain (72/10) – 2nd; P. Prashad– Best Gross (81/72/9), and Nearest The Pin; and Richard Haniff (77/10) – Longest Drive.
In the 15 – 20 Flight, Lekhnarine Shivraj shot a low net score of 67 to emerge winner in his flight as well as the Tournament champion only one shot better than second place finisher Mahindra Bhagwandin. Winners were: L. Shivraj (67/16) – 1st; M. Bhagwandin (68/20) – 2nd; followed by Satrohan Tiwari (71/15).
In the Third flight (21 – 28), Maxim Mangra continued his winning ways beating Brian Hackett on a countback after both players tied for a net 71. This is the second week in a row that Mangra has played exceedingly well on the back-9 to put himself in the Winners’ row. In this Flight winners were: M. Mangra (71/28) – 1st; B. Hackett (71/21) – 2nd; followed by Eion Blue (75/28).

Club President Aleem Hussain noted that “while the Ramps tournament marks the LGC’s 14thtournament in the first quarter of the year, it shows great and increasing interest in the game, a commendable effort of support from within the business community, and a remarkable effort by the Executive and Grounds staff to maintain the Course in superb condition.” He noted that the 2nd quarter is very promising too in that already several major tournaments are in the line-up with Banks DIH, Assuria General, Macorp, Torginol Paints, AmericanChamber of Commerce, The Lusignan Open, President’s Cup and Easter Classic all set to happen in the next few months.
