The ‘Suicide by Cop’ phenomenon
DEAR EDITOR, 
There is a phenomenon in American life called ‘Suicide by Cop’ where young and not-so-young Americans (men and women) lose their lives at the hands of law-enforcement.
In general, this situation arises when a person who commits a crime chooses to die rather than go to jail and/or a person who is already suicidal exploits the predictable eagerness of law-enforcement to use lethal force against them by deliberately provoking the use of that force.
These people, in some perverted way, think that they remain blameless for their actions and that law-enforcement bears the whole blame, hence the term ‘Suicide by Cop.
There is a similar phenomenon that has recently reared its head here in Guyana that has to do with the move by Jagdeo to unlawfully install Ali as the PPP’s next presidential candidate.
It seems that Jagdeo has only now come to the realization that he will never again be president of this country. He has eventually lost his ‘Cognitive Dissonance’ – psychological term for being out of touch with reality – which prevented him from grasping that fact, so he has decided that if he can’t be president, no other member of the PPP can be president, hence the PPP must commit ‘Suicide by Cop’ or set events in motion that will guarantee its fall from grace.
In other words, by unlawfully installing Ali, Jagdeo has forced Dr. Persaud, Nandlall, Teixeira, etc. to withdraw their candidacies thereby deliberately fracturing the PPP to the extent that it will never be able to contend at the level it has been accustom to contend politically in the past.
Here, the suicide plan is executed – unlawfully installing Ali – and the predictable, eager, lethal force will be the understandable disaffection shown by Dr. Persaud (who, by the way, is by far the most talented of them all and very pure and fertile presidential material), Nandlall and Teixeira, among others, resulting in the certain implosion of the PPP and either its long-term or permanent inability to contend politically.
That, my friends, is Jagdeo’s version of ‘Suicide by Cop’. He prefers to engineer the demise of his party rather than go to jail (never be president again) and that clearly suggests that he is either criminally inclined or is suicidal. Either way, he is not good for our Beautiful Guyana.
