DEAR EDITOR,
Some politicians are bent on playing the political game for power, which is bringing international disrespect to our amazing country, Guyana. Guyana has been a virtual animated suspension for fifty years. We seem unable to move but definitely have the ability to regress. At the moment, we are bereaved of manufacturing entities, when in the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, we had numerous; we had several local manufacturing entities and created employment, money circulation and provided a sense of hope to the nation. For the sake of space, I do not wish to elaborate on the names of those factories and founders who made it all possible.
It is a painful thing for this writer to comment on the realities of the no confidence motion and the Government’s recalcitrance to accept and fulfill the constitutional provision that are enshrined despite the pronouncement of the Speaker of the House and the Chief Justice. Even of course the most recent refusal of the court to provide an injunction to allow Cabinet to operate as per normal.
I wish to make it pellucid that I do not have a political bias, fault or bone in my body and mind, but I am a patriot who will make commentaries at times that any Government of the day may not like and the same for the opposition. I have no political ambition while many friends and families think I have what it takes to be an honourable, respectful and wise political force that will create change in this country. I was even assured of financial and logistical support and I know and my friends, families and supporters know that I can easily take three seats, which can change the face of politics in Guyana, particularly knowing I am incorruptible and cannot be bought by power or monies and wealth. Looking at both sides of the major political plays, I feel a great sense of pain and even shame.
Some races and personalities may differ but the modus operandi for power and wealth are very similar. However, for the political powerhouses, I wish for it be known that my people, supporters and friends spanning the Corentyne, Essequibo Coast and Interior along with Islamic, Hindu and Christians organizational supports look up to me and are waiting on my guidance to vote, and I believe that my words and my guidance to these people whether it’s one, two or three seats without me taking a political platform can cause a political institution to win an election and that’s true. Or lose! “Will I take a political platform?” I take the words of Sean Connery as (James Bond), “Never say never,” but I have no political ambition. When one witness the kind of political tomfoolery and shenanigans one has to worry and ask these questions, Wither Guyana! “Do we know who we are?”, “Do we know where we are going?”, “Do we know what to do?”; “Can we get there?” These are some small food for thought for the political power blocks.
I will not comment on whether the no confidence motion was right or wrong because we know what is taking place. I describe it as political tomfoolery. The fact is we have a constitution and we have to be grounded and guided by that constitution and stop playing political games with the constitution as it is causing Guyanese citizens to become suspicious of each other. This is leading to emotional outburst, throwing of remarks and judgmental, idiotic pronouncements on some people, by some in power and others as well, to the point of affecting lies denying opportunities in employment contracts, awards, etc.
It will appear as though the Government has its own style and techniques to perpetuate itself in power, as most Government in power might be tempted to do, which is being used to impress its supporters and the electorate as any other Government might be tempted to do. This can be seen by the most uneducated person so I’m asking the Government and Opposition to not underestimate the man in the street. We have politicians who have a tendency to underestimate their citizens and give them false sense of hopes, with promises such as “a pie in the sky!”
But for the sake of taking a sledge hammer and using it to reinforce with some heavy slams in the heads of the political leaders of Government and Opposition, so that they may come to a realization as to what the constitutional crisis may bring. The crisis we saw in the United States is not in the too distant past and is frightening to reality and it’s still fresh in the minds of people around the world. So permit me Mr. Editor to list a few of the realities that the constitutional crisis will bring: One, people can stop paying their taxes as all commissions and authorities, “Go to sleep”.
The public service could cease or shut down if people are not paying their taxes and monies from the treasury cannot be expended for salaries any longer. Contractors will not be paid and they will not be able to pay their employees and suppliers. They may just have to cease operations. The airport might have to be shut down as the traffic controllers may not be paid along with other staffers at our national and other airports and ports of entries and exits.
At all cost I am appealing to the Government to face reality and do not allow the constitutional crisis to take place in this country as once again we will become the laughing stock of the Caribbean, national security will be compromised as the military and police will not be paid. Let us reflect on the 70’s and 80’s, until today Guyanese are looked down upon in the Caribbean as the laughing stock from that era of curse. This constitutional crisis if it ever happens could very well put us in a worse state than then. We have read in the media that for CARICOM Guyana is the biggest headache.
But you know the leaders of political parties, Government and opposition can make all of this to come to an end, the emotionality, the suspicions, the distrust, the throwing of remarks and even possibility of violence by those who have a propensity for such things can all come to a screeching halt. If the Government and Opposition can communicate and work as a body in community and unity to galvanize and harmonize our people as, “One People, One Nation, One Destiny”. The Multi-national co-operations (Oil and Gas) can manipulate a one party but with a National Front Coalition Government, this will ensure the “long arms of corruption” does not penetrate the hearts, minds and pockets of the deceitful. Because of the mix of brains, contracts will be read and not signed off readily. It’s a technique known to be used by strong nations to colonize and usurp resources of some nations.
Some Multi-National Co-operations try to penetrate smaller nations after studying the weaknesses of corrupt Politicians and induce them financially with “Creature Comfort Gifts. We have the example of Africa the great motherland blessed with natural resources and riches and flora and fauna that still astounds Multi-National Co-operations and wealthy nations. “They cause warfare among the peoples in mass confusion creating hate and some of the most vicious wars and warlords, all for the sake of putting their hands on the wealth of Africa”. We have seen nations destabilize, we have seen governments destabilize, where economic saboteur was sent to break nations and governments, we saw this in Guyana during the 1960’s and even in the early 80’s.
Economic assassins unleashed in some countries to break those countries so that the power hungry Multi-National Co-operations and the rich countries may have their way. We have seen violence used and heads of states good for the countries made into criminals, we have seen nations held at ransom, we have seen leaders and heads of state assassinated and countries brought to ruination, because of individuals who sell their honour and country with their people for their personal gain.”Government of Guyana and opposition sit and talk, let your parties marry and let us save our country and bring sense of wisdom and make our land, the land of destiny of goodwill and love and make it an inspiration for other nations.”
Sincerely,
Roshan Khan Snr.
