It is more than disheartening to learn that after some 10 years now, we are still saddled with labour troubles at the Rusal mining area. The Russians do not seem to be able to follow our labour laws. The union is a popular one and it has the support of the workers.
The constant refusal of the Rusal management to treat properly with the workers and their representatives does not augur well for good industrial relations in this sector of the country. Then to add insult to injury, the management is now saying that they have not made any profits since taking over the mines. But they keep improving production levels and the ships keep on taking out bauxite regularly.
I feel that the stage is now set for a takeover by the workers of the assets. Perhaps the Chinese might be interested in the mines and can align them with their Linden operations. We need to simply throw out the Russians. These people are operating like tyrants. Why can they not speak with Mr. Lewis and have the matter settled in amicable fashion?
It is time for the government to step up and be counted. The Russians must go. We do not get significant aid from Russia. We do not need these blighters. The whole country needs to get together and just kick them out.
Regards.
