I came forward with a horrific encounter I had with the police at Providence station and it went somewhat viral. There were a lot of comments from various persons about me taking this police matter further, the majority being supportive, while others felt I want attention and predicted (based on stats) that I will get no justice.
Pondering on these comments, I cannot ridicule the persons who are not in favour of my move. It is what was taught to us from generations; you just can’t win the police. They slowly developed a passive attitude towards the police and it’s what some of us inherited and willingly adopt. Again I empathize here, because not everyone is brave enough to be a Martyr, so to speak, amidst massive corruption.
Maybe I was born a different breed, but I am ready to stand up for what I believe and what’s right. I’m confident that this will trigger a revolution and the officers who are at cloud nine with their ego will rightfully climb down.
I must include that I’ve met some really polite and humble police, the recent being Inspector Hohenkirk at Brickdam complaints section. She is such a charismatic person, maybe she can offer some communication ethics training to persons in the Guyana Police Force who find it difficult to muster politeness and manners when speaking.
