It was a quiet afternoon at the Georgetown club on yesterday afternoon as quarter-finals for the plates were played. First up were Ian Mekdeci (5) and Lydia Fraser (10). Fraser started off in good form to win the first game 15/11, but Mekdeci warmed up in the second to dominate a 15/9 win.
In his stride now, Mekdeci comfortably earned 9 straight points in the 3rd, before Fraser managed to win back the serve, but she was unable to hold on and Mekdeci powered home to a 15/8 match game; securing his place in the Open Plate semi-finals which was scheduled for last Evening.
Also moving on to the Open Plate Semis were Samuel Ince-Carvalhal (3) who defeated Tony Farnum (10) 15/8, 15/8; Medhi Ramdhani (8), who bested Dane Pereira (10) 15/10, 15/13; and Jonathan Antczak (6) who got a walkover.
In the only Category A plate match, Ethen Jonas (-4) beat Brenno DaSilva (13) 15/14, 15/13.
Last night’s matches will decide who qualifies for today’s finals.
