The seventh edition of the Milo Schools’ Football Tournament continued on Sunday at the Ministry of Education (MOE) ground on Carifesta Avenue with three matches which resulted in wins for Canje and
Lodge Secondary, while Marian Academy and President’s College played to 1-1 draw.
Marian Academy had looked set for a victory against the East Coast based President’s College (PC) during the opening encounter of day two in the this year’s tournament that is supported by the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) with the theme, “Stop gender based violence”, but the lads had to settle for a draw.
The teams evenly matched skills until the 20th minute when Marian Academy’s Ridel Hernandez netted from just outside the eighteen-yard box; a pass received from the mid-field, which was expertly slotted pass the keeper.
Keron Solomon scored a well taken free kick for President’s College’s equaliser. The last fifteen minutes of play saw both teams press high for chances to score but when the opportunities came, they were not well received and the group round-robin clash was destined for a draw.
Lodge Secondary trampled newcomers St. Mary’s 5-0 in the final match of the day which kicked off in overcast conditions and finished under light showers.
Shemroy Meyers bagged a brace in the 18th and 47th minutes, while Marcus Bamfield (30th), Leroy Sealy (32), Nickolas Trotman (52) and Triston Louisey (64th) netted one goal each in the rout.
Meanwhile, Canje Secondary of Berbice needled Georgetown’s South Ruimveldt Secondary in the second match of the day, thanks to Keron Solomon’s 33rd minute strike.
The tournament continues this weekend with six more matches, three each on Saturday and Sunday.
