The Guyana Squash Association (GSA) first tournament for the year serves off at 18:00hrs this evening at the Georgetown Club with what promises to be a very competitive annual Bounty Farm Ltd
Handicap Tournament.
Forty-four participants will participate in two categories; Open and Category A, with each player awarded a number of plus or minus points as is usual in handicap tournaments, the field is leveled to allow the underdogs a real shot at the wins and a test of stamina and patience for the more skilful players.
The Open category should see some stunning performances from the experienced Alex Arjoon, Regan Pollard and Deje Dias from the men, and Ashley Khalil and Taylor Fernandes for the women. Steven Xavier will also contend in this category.
In Category A, returning champion Michael Alphonso will be battling against an array of improved players, including Nicholas Verwey, to retain his t
itle, while Abosaide Cadogan and Kirsten Gomes will be a closely matched bout if they meet as their games usually produce thrilling affairs.
Games will run each weekday from 18:00hrs and throughout the day from Saturday afternoon, before finishing on Sunday. The customary fundraiser BBQ will be held on Sunday 17th.
