The investigations into the fire that destroyed the two-bedroom home in Beterverwagting last Sunday between the hours of 3:00 hours and 3:30 hours has been thorough and completed, says Fire Chief Marlon Gentle.
The occupant of the home is 53-year-old Maurette, who lived with her 18- year-old son. Unfortunately the son was not home when the blaze started and could not render any form of assistance in preventing it.
Fire Chief Marlon Gentle said that during the interview of the woman, she displayed signs of being uneasy and he further confirmed that she is of an unsound mind.
He also said “that the building has no form of electricity” which gives even more of a confirmation to her mental illness since she was unable to say what may have caused the fire when she was asked the question in the first place.
When asked where the woman is at the moment since she is expected to be homeless as a result of her unfortunate experience, he said that “someone in the same village “took her in”.
