– Suspect had killed victim’s sister in 2009
The suspect in the murder of labourer Cedric Williams had also killed Williams’ sister, Patricia Williams, ten years ago, police confirmed yesterday.
Kaieteur News understands that the suspect, 33-year-old Paul Charles, has told police that he stabbed Williams last Thursday after Williams accused him of killing his sister.
Police had said that Charles, his sister, and Cedric Williams were imbibing ‘High Wine’ at the Foulmouth, Essequibo landing, when the incident occurred.
Police said the suspect became annoyed and stabbed Williams in the neck with a knife. He then fled.
Williams was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police captured Charles a day later.
Charles was implicated in the 2009 strangling of Cedric Williams’ sister, Patricia Williams, whose body, with some of her clothing removed, was found at the Foul Mouth foreshore.
The woman, a boat operator, was slain shortly after taking the suspect and others from Bartica to Foulmouth, Essequibo.
After his arrest, the suspect reportedly told the police he had killed the woman to avenge his father’s death.
His dad had perished over ten years prior in a boat mishap. A brother of Patricia Williams was the captain of the crashed boat.
Paul Charles had reportedly caught up with the 50-year-old boat operator and others at the Harbour Cove Bar in Bartica where they were all imbibing.
Later, Patricia Williams and four others, including Charles, had left Bartica for Foulmouth.
The woman reportedly dropped off the others, leaving Charles in the vessel.
It was at that he had submerged and strangled the woman; later dragging her body to the foreshore.
