The Region Two Democratic Council hosted for the first time yesterday, a confidence walk, which signaled the commencement of Mashramani activities within the region.
The walk commenced around 06:15 hrs yesterday after participants assembled at the rendezvous point at Coffee Grove, Essequibo Coast.
Participating in the walk were members of the Guyana Defence Force, the Fire service, public servants, the Region Two tourism association and students from the Essequibo technical institute. The participants who numbered almost 200, briskly walked from the rendezvous point to the RDC office, Anna Regina in full support of Mashramani 2019.
Assistant Regional Executive Officer, Ms. Yvette Tafares-Hastings in addressing the participants yesterday, highlighted some of the region’s activities for Mashramani 2019.
There will be Clash of drums, where people with drumming skills will be performing at the Anna Regina car park, a day of sport on February 15 at Anna Regina Centre ground and some other activities.
February 22 at 8:00 PM will be the flag raising ceremony that will feature a cultural show. The customary road march and costume competitions will be hosted on February 23.”
Also addressing the participants yesterday was the Regional Executive Officer, Mr. Dennis Jaikaran. Jaikaran commended those in attendance for their participation. “It is a clear indication and expression of the confidence that we have in our selves.” He also urged all to participate from the heart as contrary to participating begrudgingly.
Mashramani which is celebrated in Guyana to mark the country’s republic anniversary, will be celebrated this year under the theme “Celebrate 49 with Victory in Mind- Rediscovering El Dorado.”
