Patrick Haynes, the Honourary General Secretary of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF), has indicated to Kaieteur Sport that he will be going up for the post of head of the region’s basketball body; the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC), when the organisation hosts the Ordinary Congress and Elections on February 9th & 10th in the Dominican Republic.
Haynes, who currently serves as the Vice-President of Finance and Marketing at the CBC, will be the only candidate opposing current head, Glyne Clarke of Barbados.
As the Honourary General Secretary of the GABF, Patrick oversees the international operations, including international recruiting, fund-raising, and seeks to ensure that the GABF is in compliance with FIBA statutes.
The CBC VP spent four years as the Director of Marketing for the regional body and was elected into his current role in January 2014 at the CBC Annual Congress in San Juan, Puerto Rico, along with the primary responsibilities of planning and implementing programmes designed to build the CBC brand and promote the sport of basketball globally.
In his Director of Marketing role, he supervised and administered all of the CBC’s online marketing programmes that promoted, educated, and enhanced the brand throughout the Caribbean and Central America.
He still works closely with the GABF and the CBC on the day-to-day operations of all digital assets, including GuyanaBasketball.com, CaribbeanBasketball.com, CBC Rebound Digital Magazine, CBC Mobile and the CBC social media.
Haynes noted that he is still currently preparing his manifesto which will be completed and shared with the media by this weekend.
The candidates for VP of Finance and Marketing will be contested amongst Garvin Warwick of Trinidad & Tobago (T&T), Hon. Minister of Sport Darrel Mathews of Antigua and Barbuda and Leslie Collymore from St. Lucia.
The VP of Development post will see Marlon Nattie of Jamaica and Mario Bowleg of Bahamas contesting.
Up for the role of Treasurer are Rondel Johnson of Grenada, Velica Augustin from St. Lucia, and Kebra Nanton of Antigua & Barbuda.
Unopposed are Sabrina Mitchell of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, who is the Secretary, and Bahamian Fredrick Brown who is the VP of Technical Operations.
The congress will also see the election of two at large members; those nominees are Conrad Issa of Suriname and Victor O’Garro of Cayman Islands. (Calvin Chapman)
