A number of school cyclists from Region six who performed outstandingly in the National School track and field, athletics, swimming and cycling championships which were held at Leonora, West Coast Demerara and at the National Park Circuit in Georgetown, were rewarded.
The young riders who are all members of the Flying Ace Cycling Club (FACC) were rewarded by the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region 6, East Berbice Corentyne when the RDC held its monthly statutory meeting in its boardroom at Vryman’s Erven New Amsterdam, Berbice.
Jeremiah Joseph who participated in the U16 division won two gold medals in the 2000M and the 1500M events. Jason Campbell dominated the U14 category where he won three golds breaking two records in the process. He broke the 3000M and the 1500M records and also won the 800M event. Female rider Marcia Carrington won gold in the 3000M race.
While Joseph and Campbell represented District 6, Corentyne, Carrington represented District 15, New Amsterdam, and Canje.
Defending champion District 6 was able to retain the cycling championship.
Accompanying the cyclists was Coach Randolph Roberts. Roberts and the cyclists expressed thanks to the members of the RDC for their kind gesture and promised to continue to do their best to not only make the district and region, but Guyana proud. (Samuel Whyte)
