The People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) is flip-flopping on its readiness to head to the polls.
At a press conference, the PNCR hosted yesterday at Congress Place, Sophia, Central Committee Member, Aubrey Norton said that the party never came out of election mode. He said that it will only be intensified now that elections may be around the corner. Also, Norton said that the PNCR has been in contact with its supporters.
Further, Norton told the media that the PNCR is sure that the majority of the people of Guyana will vote in a manner that will not allow the return of the “corrupt,” “greedy”, “money hungry” and “criminal-minded” Jagdeo, who is in full control of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP).
Norton said this during the question and answer segment of the press conference after he would have read a prepared statement. During his reading of the statement that focused on the actions of former Alliance For Change (AFC) Member of Parliament, Charrandass Persaud, when he voted with the People’s Progressive Party against the Government on a no-confidence motion. Norton said, “We will not allow this treacherous, heinous and vindictive act of betrayal, which seeks to disrupt the orderly development of Guyana to succeed. We will pursue all options open to us to ensure that our development continues.”
This is in keeping with a similar sentiment expressed by the government just two days ago.
“The Coalition Government assures its supporters and the public that it will pursue all available options (in face of the motion) and act in the best interest of all.”
Some of the “options” being explored by the PNCR and the government would see an avoidance of election within three months.
Norton was questioned as to why the party and the government are looking to explore these “options” if it is a case where it is ready to go to the polls and if it is so confident about voters’ support.
Norton said that he “does not know that there is any scatter to avoid going to the polls.”
Further, he said that there are some in the PNCR who believe that heading to the polls is the “best thing to do.” (Abena Rockcliffe-Campbell)
