Nigel Hinds, president of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation, has donated 222 basketballs to the Linden Amateur Basketball Association and its affiliated clubs as he called on the sport authorities to find a means of having the unused pair of basketball goals at the National Sports Commission’s National Gymnasium re-assigned for the Mackenzie Sports Club hard court.
The LABA had requested the under utilised basketball goals be placed at the Mackenzie Sports Club basketball court since it has been at the National Gymnasium without being used since 2016 and the recent crashing of one of the basketball backboards at the MSC has rendered the facility without the means of having competitions played.
For this to happen Hinds opined that the NSC could and should accommodate this LABA request by having the goals relocated as it is for government to have the nation’s interest to develop sport across Guyana and not only in the City.
He felt that this is a real occasion where the sport authorities can really impact and show how much they care for the youths of the nation and render the necessary help for a good cause.
He rubbished a report that the NSC says it does not own the MSC hard court, thus the goals cannot be placed there as Hinds felt strongly if the government sport authorities are interested in sport nationally, they would find a way to accommodate this removal if they really have an interest transforming basketball in Guyana.
The association, Hinds noted, had planned three tournaments for its end of year programmes which have been put on hold due to the fact that a replacement of the basketball goal remains in doubt; and the fact that attempts have not borne any positive change in the current situation facing the game in Linden.
