Uncertainly lies for one of the double header matches set for tomorrow night, Boxing Night, when the Upper Demerara Football Association GT Beer football championship continues at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.
In fact, while the first game from 19.00hrs will feature the reigning champions Botafago taking on Topp XX the second from 21.00hrs, which should see Hi Stars taking on the Upper Demerara League champions Christianburg’s Eagles United is somewhat uncertain.
That game has some doubts since Hi Stars have lost one of their promising players Leonard Peters (Jr.) who lost his life due to stab wounds in his home community a few days ago.
That death has put a damper on that game coming off. It is therefore unlikely that a strong enough side could put in an appearance under the circumstances and last night the UDFA should have met with the Hi Stars club executives and decide on the chances of that game coming off.
Hi Stars are unlikely to progress in this championship and the fact that their game would have decided if Capital FC the new club on the block would go through after they lost their game against them should generate interest as if the Eagles could have rebounded to get past Hi Stars by a comfortable margin enough to eliminate the Capital FC.
It would be better therefore that these two clubs Eagles United and Capital FC be the second game and play to a finish and the winner going through after their previous 0-0 stalemate when the tournament started.
The first game is Botafago, who won last year’s tournament, facing Topp XX who gained another chance at a semifinal slot after being the best second placed team behind Winners Connection.
