Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Saheed Mohamed struck half centuries to guide host Everest Masters to a seven-wicket win over the Media XI when the teams collided on Saturday last in a 25-over affair.
Chanderpaul and Mohamed frustrated their opponents with sensible batting as their team successfully chased 160, ending on 163-3 in 16.4 overs. The right-handed Mohamed clobbered five fours and four sixes before he retired on 62, while Chanderpaul timed the ball to perfection as he struck four fours and one six before he too retired when on 55.
Basil Persaud and Ronald Jaisingh were unbeaten on 14 and 10 respectively when victory was achieved. Siddiq Mohamed took one wicket for the Media XI.
Earlier, the Media XI lost six wickets after they decided to bat. Rajiv Bisnauth stroked seven fours before retiring on 53, while guess players Siddiq Mohamed and Ryan Banwarie made 26 and 20 respectively. John Ramsingh made 18 before he retired as Persaud claimed 4-33, while A. Persaud took two wickets.
Everest Masters skipper Rajesh Singh expressed gratitude to the players on both teams for making the game possible. He presented a plaque to Chanderpaul while Persaud was named man-of-the-match. Bisnauth and Siddiq Mohamed received trophies for being named the best batsman and bowler respectively on the Media XI. Everest Masters received a trophy.
