The Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry is the latest entity to throw its support behind the Matarkai Sports Committee (MSC) for the staging of their annual football tournament which is set to commence on December 26 at Oronoque Tarmac, Port Kaituma, Region One.
The tournament which is being held in collaboration with New Image Barber Shop and Platinum General Store will see male and female teams from Matthew’s Ridge, Port Kaituma, Sebai, Mabaruma and Moruca battling for attractive cash and individual prizes.
Public Relations Officer of MSC Sherlon Rodrigues said fans can expect quality football throughout the tournament since a number of the top players from the region will be on show. He said that the tournament is designed to nurture the skills of the young players and promote the sport in the area.
He expressed gratitude to GBTI, while the entity’s representative Liam Wong said they are happy to be associated with the tournament once again and it’s a way of giving back to the society.
He stated that such tournament can only help to develop the talent of the youths adding that they are looking forward to a successful competition. Meanwhile, Rodrigues informed that the Atkinson brothers’ eight annual Floodlights Football competition, which is currently underway, will conclude on December 26 at the Kumaka Recreation Ground, Moruca.
The winning male and female teams will take home $200,000 and $100,000 respectively.
