Archery Guyana’s Outdoor Recurve Championship Finals on Sunday last at the Carifesta Sports Complex Ground, Robert Singh displayed calm and brilliance to overcome the favoured
Umasankar Madray 6-2 to take the Men’s Individual gold medal with Sean Duncan getting past Nicholas Hing 6-2 to secure the bronze medal.
In the women’s Individual final, Samira Duncan dominated her peers to take the gold medal from Shereeda Yusuf with the bronze medal going to Narda Mohamed.
It was a day of competitive action displayed by the archers. The women semi-final match between Narda Mohamed and Samira Duncan saw the latter securing a spot in the final against Shereeda Yusuf who benefited from a bye due to the no-show of Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon.
The Cadet Women competition was a two person faceoff which was dominated by Talitha Kissoon to secure the gold medal ahead of Jessica Callender. In the men’s quarter finals, Sean Duncan and Jeewanram Persaud produced a tense match where they both tied at 5-5, thus giving onlookers a chance to witness a one arrow shoot off for a tie breaker.
Duncan took the opportunity to show his dominance and secured his spot at semi-final. In the other quarter-final matches Anand Mangra was defeated by Umasankar Madray 2-6, the other match being effectively a semi-final with Nicholas Hing losing to Robert Singh resulting in Singh advancing to final due to the no show of Ryan McKinnon.
In the semi-final Umasankar overcame a poor start to dominate Sean Duncan in the last 3 rounds to secure the win and a spot in the final.
For the team shoot-offs, Robert Singh and Narda Mohamed dominated to take the gold medal leaving team Anand Mangra and Samira Duncan with silver while Umasankar Madray and Shereeda Yusuf secured bronze.

Teams – Robert Singh/Narda Mohamed – 101 (gold), Anand Mangra/Samira Duncan – 120 (silver), UmasankarMadray/Shereeda Yusuf – 64 (bronze).
