A total of 16 individuals were recently sworn in as Chairperson and Deputy Chairpersons, to represent the eight Neighbourhood Democratic Councils [NDC] within Region Two [Pomeroon/Supenaam].
The ceremony which was held last Monday on the lawns of the Anna Regina Town Council building in Anna Regina, was also attended by the Minister of Communities, Ronald Bulkan, and Regional Chairman, Devenand Ramdatt.
The oath of office was administrated by Regional Executive Officer, Rupert Hopkinson.
Minister Bulkan delivered the charge to the newly Chairpersons and Vice Chairperson.
Bulkan advised each councilor that they educate themselves on the by-laws and functions of the NDCs.
Bulkan explained that a handbook was printed by the Ministry of Communities, which offers practical guidelines for persons executing duties within local government areas.
The Minister also highlighted the need for unity among Central Government, the Regional Government and the Local Government.
Mr. Lionel Boodram was sworn in as Chairman of the Evergreen /Paradise NDC, with Olinda Lawrie as Vice Chair.
For the Annadale/Riverstown NDC Mr. Charran Sujit was sworn as Chairman and Ms. Sarojanie Singh as Vice Chairperson,
Now serving as Chairman of the Charity /Urasara NDC is Mr. Puresh Kishore, while Mr. Shakti Kellawan will serve as Vice Chairman.
For the Good Hope/ Pomona NDC, Mr. Andy Ramnarine was sworn as Chairman and Mr. Arnold Adams as Vice Chairman,
In the Moruka/Phoenix Park NDC Mr. Sheldon English was sworn in as Chairman and Mr. Garfield London as Vice Chairman.
Mr. Dexter Cameron was sworn in as the Chairman for the Kitty/Providence NDC, and Mr. Eastern A Raymond as Vice Chairman.
For the Aberdeen /Zorg Enlygt NDC. Jaishri Persaud was sworn as Chairman and Mr. Mohan Boodram as Vice Chairman,
The Nile/ Cozier NDC, Mr. Narad Persaud was sworn as Chairman and Ms. Sabitree Tulsiedas as Vice Chairman.
The New Councils will take effect from the January 1, 2019.
