A family trip to Arrow Point Resort, a short stay in Aruba, $250,000 and a trophy for being adjudged the Best Cop, were awards that were bestowed on Detective Sergeant Rodwell Sarrabo
yesterday as the Force held its annual Awards Ceremony yesterday.
The ceremony was held at the Tactical Services Unit (TSU) drill square, Eve Leary, during which some $18.6M in monetary awards were handed out.
There were also plaques and certificates presented to 2,357 ranks, civilians and groups.
Detective Sarrabo, who is building a reputation as a tireless investigator, was ‘A’ Division’s runner-up Best Cop last year. He had solved a slew of high-profile cases, including the murders of 89-year-old Constance Fraser, and 77-year-old Phyllis Caesar, who were slain last October in their Lot 243 Albert Street and South Road residence.
Detective Sergeant 16473 Keith Conway, who was recently adjudged ‘A’ Division’s Best Cop, was awarded the second runner up trophy.
He was presented with a trophy and $200,000. Conway and all Divisional Best Cops each received a plaque and $100,000.
The other Divisional Best Cops were Lance Corporal Keith Clarkson (B Division); Detective Corporal 9286 Benjamin(C Division); Constable English (D Division); Detective Sergeant 19364 Williams; Constable 20730 Hyman and Constable 21614 Dhanraj.
Inspector Beaton and 23849 Moore copped the Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year awards.
Awards were also presented to several community policing groups.
In addressing his ranks, Commissioner of Police Leslie James remarked that the awards seek to boost morale and motivation.
“This year we had our fair share of issues, but thanks to the collective effort we have managed to surmount these issues,” the Top Cop said.
He noted that there has been a decrease in serious crimes this year; with 97 murders so far as compared to 108 murders last year.
