Kaieteur News columnist, Freddie Kissoon did some thought provoking and analytical columns of the L.G.E results and correctly pointed to reasons for the A.F.C’s dismal performance at these elections. In one of his columns, “Moses’ Masaramus; Nagamootoo Nagaika”, Kissson pointed to the silence of the A.F.C. leaders on the L.G.E. results,
‘The adumbrations I was waiting on were the Kaieteur News A.F.C column and Nagamootoo’s Sunday Chronicle item. Both avoided mention of the A.F.C showing”. Well. Nagamootoo finally conjured up the testicular courage to reply. The columns of A.F.C elder statesman, in the Chronicle over the past two Sundays, are, to say the least, repugnant.
They reek of audacity and arrogance in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary as provided by Kissoon and others, especially Gecom. Nagamootoo, in his column of December 9, (Figures, Fiction and Facts), put a clever spin to the L.G.E results. He claimed, “As a result (of the 13% in Whim), the A.F.C. made an historic inroad into a P.P.P. base…: He added that with the 13% in Whim, “the A.F.C. is not dead meat.”
Nagamootoo added, “In each of these two constituencies (in Whim), the votes were greater than the 20 backers who supported the candidates. But the opposition, and a few others who ought to know better, continue to pour scorn on the defiant and rebellious voters.”
Really Moses! As a Prime Minister, is this the best you can do? The Whim voters are defiant and rebellious? This doesn’t look like many more than the backers! I hope Nagamootoo does not include Kissoon in his “a few others who ought to know better,” because Kissoon is more than capable of answering Nagamootoo.
Nagamootoo cleverly and deviously noted that the P.P.P actually got 21% (of 572,531 eligible voters) . Well Nagamootoo, of numbers who voted, 208,534, the P.P.P. got 61%, A.P.N.U, 34% and A.F.C. 4%. These figures are from GECOM! Deal with the figures that represented those who voted!
I am disappointed in the performance of Nagamootoo and the A.F.C. since they came into Government. He must have the testicular fortitude to admit that this miserable performance is the reason for the A.F.C. election debacle. In my opinion, Nagamootoo is more of a shadow Prime Minister and his party is not a viable third force.
In this week’s column, “Countdown To Christmas ( December 16), Nagamootoo takes a swipe at the opposition leader, with an obvious reference to the latter as the Grinch who wants to steal Christmas. Nagamootoo noted, “I re-looked the headline news this year and noticed that our Mr. Grinch was hard at work then to spread ‘doom and gloom’.
I saw a similar story in yesterday’s Chronicle, captioned, “Harmon slams Jagdeo’s doom and gloom.” I hold no brief for the opposition leader but I have a question for the Honourable Prime Minister: Who is the Grinch which stole the Christmas of the children of all sugar workers when the latter had their bread taken from them with no alternative plans for employment?
Yours faithfully,
