Christianburg/Wismar Secondary School (CWSS) were unable to cope with the challenge of South Rupununi’s Annai Secondary School who took the fight to the Lindeners during their comfortable 3-0 victory last night at the Ministry of Education (MoE) ground during round two play of the KFC Goodwill Cup tournament.
During Annai Secondary’s first win of the tournament they got the ball rolling early, with some skilful use of the midfield; they were able to create their first few changes within minutes of the game.
National midfielder and Skipper of the Annai Secondary, Orville Daniels drew first blood not long after, with a stunner in the fifth minute.
As the game wore on, the Annai team were too much for their Linden counterparts, mixing wing play with balls through the middle of the park to overwhelm their opponents.
It didn’t help that the CWSS goal-keeper was a bit sloppy at times, the second goal coming after he tried to push the ball out of the area but only pushed it onto a rushing Niazz Mohammed in the 12th who slammed it against the cross-bar before it rebounded into the goal.
Mohammed completed his brace in the 35th minute after a good period of play that was built up with a string of passes. His swirling shot from 25 yards out was too much of a rocket for the CCWS keeper; even though it was aimed just a foot above his head.
At the end of the half, CWSS looked the more frustrated team, as their chances at goal were few while the winners were having much fun on the Carifesta Avenue pitch.
On the resumption, the Linden attacked with more intent, being three goals down but the team that missed the spark of midfielder Andre Mayers, were not able to trouble Annai’s custodian.
Up to press time, the second match between Shiva and East Coast’s Annandale Secondary was 0-0.
The KFC goodwill tournament features four teams, three from Guyana, Annai, CWSS and Annandale Secondary along with Trinidad &Tobago’s Shiva’s Hindu College, vying for the KFC Goodwill Cup over three days of round-robin play. This Saturday will be the final round.
