The Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) on Saturday evening last presented eight of its affiliates a Youth Development Grant when the body held a get together for its executive, member associations and the media.
President K. A Juman Yassin in brief remarks before the presentation noted that the association would have assisted other associations and federations during 2018 with substantial amounts apart from sending teams to the Commonwealth Games, South American Games in Bolivia and the Central American and Caribbean Games in Colombia.
At the Commonwealth Games, Gold Coast Australia, Troy Doris contesting the Triple Jump copped a gold medal with a leap of 16.88m becoming the first Guyanese to achieve such a feat at these games in this event.
Also during this year, the GOA has been assisting a number of athletes and coaches with a monthly allowance to help further their development locally with a view of being the best in their trade on the international level.
The following associations/federations each received $200,000: Volleyball, Karate, Weightlifting, Body Building, Baseball, Taekwondo, Judo and Tennis (Lawn Tennis).
