A new champion will be crowned this afternoon at the Ministry of Education (MOE) ground when the 2018 Smalta girls’ under-11 peewee football tournament concludes.
After a month of competition, North Ruimveldt Primary School will match skills with West Ruimveldt Primary in the final which is scheduled to kick off at 15:45hrs.
In their semifinal last Saturday, North held on to a one goal lead and snuffed out all attacking threats from South Ruimveldt’s skipper and leading goal scorer Fayon Henry, who was isolated at the top.
With that result, it means that a new champion will be crowned today.
The other finalist, West Ruimveldt, didn’t have an easy going against St. Pius girls in their semifinal and the losers ensured that the match had to be decided via kicks from the penalty mark.
Seona France had given the finalists an early lead with a successful strike in the 5th minute but Christal Archer levelled up just before halftime.
However, West held their nerve to win the shootout 3-2.
St. Pius will clash with South Ruimveldt in the third place playoff at 14:50hrs.
