Chris Otto, who was yesterday arraigned before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, is to spend Christmas in jail with a friend after being caught trying to smuggle cannabis to the same friend.
After listening to the charge, Otto denied the allegation made out against him.
It is alleged that Otto on Tuesday last (December 11) at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, unlawfully introduced a narcotic that is to say a cannabis into the Courts’ lock-ups.
According to police facts, on the day in question, around 09:00 hrs, Otto went to the lock-ups under the pretext of bringing a meal for a remanded inmate. However, Otto was denied entry as he was not properly dressed.
Otto then asked several persons to do the favour of taking in the meal for him, which saw Nyron Wilson complying with the request. The meal, which was in a black plastic bag, was checked by police constables where it was discovered that it contained several Ziploc bags, with contents suspected to be cannabis.
Wilson was then questioned by the police constables, which resulted in Otto being approached and questioned. The accused denied knowledge of the package and ever making any request to Wilson.
Moreover, Otto was arrested and later charged for the offence.
The Prosecutor after reading the facts, asked for the defendant to be remanded, stating that there was enough evidence against him.
Otto was then remanded and instructed to make his next court appearance on January 18, 2019.
