Police Inspector, Suraj Singh, who led the investigation which saw the arrest of two police ranks, yesterday testified in the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) for which Aubrey Bobb, Derwin Eastman and Jemison Williams were charged with the murder of Godfrey Scipio known as “Sagga”. Scipio was shot dead on October 12, last year.
Bobb was the first person to be charged with Scipio’s murder. He subsequently implicated former Police Corporal Derwin Eastman and his colleague, Constable Jemison Williams. They were jointly charged with the offence.
The three men were not required to plead to the indictable charge, which stated that on October 12, 2017, at David Street, Kitty, Georgetown, they murdered Scipio. They are currently on remand for the capital offence.
When the matter was called in Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore’s courtroom, yesterday, Inspector Singh who is stationed at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and attached to the Major Crime Investigation Unit, testified about the investigations he conducted in relation to the matter.
The witness told the court that relative to information received, two police officers were involved in the murder of Scipio. As such, the investigation led to the arrest of Eastman and Williams.
The Magistrate, after listening to the witness, adjourned the matter until January 11, 2019 for continuation.
According to reports, Bobb alleged that Eastman is the mastermind behind Saga’s murder, since he allegedly provided the weapon.
Scipio, 58, was shot dead shortly after leaving a Kitty hotel. He was also relieved of a gold chain.
