KSM Investments of Goed Hope, East Coast Demerara has supported the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) Boxing Day meet which is set for December 26 at the club’s track at Bush Lot, Corentyne.
President of the KMTC Cecil Kennard said a number of the country’s top racing stables have already confirmed their participation. Kennard stated that this sponsorship will take care of the winning stable in the Two-year-old Guyana Bred (Maiden) and L-Non winner events, which carry a winning tag of $200,000 and $120,000 respectively.
He thanked the business entity for their support since, according to him, not only his turf club depends on cooperate Guyana, but the entire horse racing fraternity and sports in general. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of KSM Investments Inc., Mahadeo Panchu, added that the company is happy to be part of the event and its one way of giving back to the community.
He said that that this is not the first time the company has supported the turf club and confirmed their continued support. Panchu further noted that since Guyana has a diverse culture, sport plays an important role in bringing people together.
“We believe in unity and horse racing is one sport that brings people together, so as a company we want to be a part of that culture.” Seven races are carded for the day with the C Class and Lower event being the feature race which will cover a distance of one mile; the top finisher will ride away with $800,000, second $400,000, third $200,000 and fourth $98,000.
The H1 and Lower race along with the three-year-old and over races will see the winners taking home $250,000 and $240,000 respectively. Meanwhile, the two-year-old Guyana bred (maiden) which will be contested over a distance of five furlongs will see the winner taking home $200,000; the L-Open: $140,000, L-non winners: $120,000 and L-non earners $100,000.The races will be run under the regulations of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority and entries will be closed on Sunday.
