A popular phone retailer on the Essequibo Coast was in shock last Sunday morning, when he discover that his Canter, which is his mobile cell phone unit, had been broken into.
Based on reports reaching this publication, prior to the burglary Nahib Sabar, aka “War Dog,” secured and parked his motor lorry in his Vilvoorden property, last Saturday night. This publication understands that the canter is usually parked at the Anna Regina market.
As he explained, however, the Canter was only parked in Vilvoorden on Saturday night, since the business man intended to conduct business at the Suddie Market the following day.
Based on a video footage retrieved from the business man’s premises, the incident occurred sometime around 01:00hrs on Sunday, and lasted up till 02:30hrs.
The video footage revealed that four persons entered the yard, broke the four padlocks which secured the back of the motor lorry and then made their way inside. While inside, the perpetrators secured for themselves a number of cell phones along with three laptop computers, all worth some $3.5 million.
The business man believes that the move was well thought out, and most likely committed by someone familiar with his operations. He added, “The canter was parked in the yard in front within a secure perimeter and fence. The canter usually parks in Regina, but Saturday it goes there to sell on Sunday at Suddie…so it gotta be people who know the running.”
The matter was reported to the police, who continue to lead the investigations.
Sabar told Kaieteur News, yesterday, however, that the police have been working very slowly on the case. Since the incident occurred, two individuals were held in police custody for 72 hrs but to date there has been no leads.
He said that during the burglary, the perpetrators left a sock and power bank in the Canter. He noted that he and family were cautious not to destroy sensible evidence on the crime scene. The police on the other hand, he explained, “Grabbed the socks and put it in their pocket and said ‘don’t worry with that.’”
The man further explained that the Guyana Police Force can make use of its cyber-crime unit, in tracking the cell phones IME numbers. This unique number, he explained, is connected to the phone’s board and will make the device traceable when connected to any of the local phone networks.
In the meantime, a $500,000 reward is being offered for anyone having information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators. Persons with valuable information were asked to contact businessman Sabar on cell numbers 592-668 6246, or 592-696, 4496.
