On Saturday last under the watchful eyes of USA-born Ms. Freddie Batchelor, a Director on the Board of MAXIDO Adult Self-Defense System, and its Founder and Chief Instructor, four-time Martial Arts Hall-of-Famer Sensei/Master Max Massiah, nineteen (19) students between the ages of 20 and 62, demonstrated what they were taught over the past seven weeks, with the focus being to display they have grasped the understanding and application of the techniques, termed, “The Simplicity of submission, dislocation, or breakage, in under 4 seconds.”
Three of the students were promoted to Yellow belt, 4 to Orange, 4 to Green, and 5 to the current highest-ranking grade, Blue belt. What begun with 6 Orange belts testing (successfully) for Green became only 4 Green, as two students who did exceptionally well (Jamaal Sobers and Kojo McPherson) skipped Green and were graded to Blue.
Sobers joined his father (former Magistrate Leslie Sobers, who went from Green to Blue) to total 5 Maxido Blue belts in the popular Self-Defense System which was established in New York, in October 2017.
The Founder said the Maxido system has rapidly gained and is increasing the respect of the Martial Arts Community, especially in the USA where it has showcased its devastating effectiveness.
Master Max often repeats, “If seven out of every 10 women who were murdered, knew how to defend themselves, at least 5 of them would’ve most likely been alive today.” The Martial Arts veteran with 47 years of practice and study under his belt, said the system was specifically structured for those who may be subjected to bullyism, mugging, robberies, physical abuse, or unlawful assault, such as business owners, professionals and seniors with the priority being to remove the vulnerability of being injured, maimed, or killed.
The uniqueness of the system is that students are not taught to “fight” (as in punches or kicks) but are taught to deter by disabling the adversary using techniques with specific aim to stop a fight before it becomes a fight, and the sole goal is to be the victor of any physical confrontation, unscathed as possible, and the aggressor either completely subdued or being the recipient of a limb wrenched out of its socket or a broken bone (or bones).
Master (or Sensei) Max (as he is called), stressed that students are taught to only utilise the techniques after all efforts to avoid being hurt by an aggressor are utterly exhausted, and the only option available is to defend themselves.
Then they will respond effectively, with the thought “rather you than me” as they deliver the system motto – Pain Application for Bullies.
Director Batchelor said she is happy to see the females who have embraced the Maxido lifestyle, with the comfort those are a less number of women who may suffer injury at the hands of an abusive husband, fiancé, or boyfriend, while adding that this also goes for males, as there are those who are also abused by their female companions.
Everyone needs to learn how to defend themselves, not only for themselves, but to also protect their loved ones. Master Max was in high praise of the students, and congratulated them on their journey to becoming better citizens who can walk the streets with hardly any fear, while earning discipline and self-confidence, yet without complacency. The Maxido Dojo is located at 166 Waterloo Sts, between Lamaha & New Market Streets.
Ms. Batchelor, CEO of Enterprise & Destiny Consulting, Educational, & Public Relations Firm (USA) will be hosting a 5-hour Maxido Training Seminar on Sunday December 16th, at the Dojo, beginning from 12:00hrs. Interested persons can call 609 8132, or email [email protected].
