The constitution clearly states that Prime Minister of Guyana is a registered Member of Parliament and allowed to vote in Parliament under law. He can only lose that right to attend Parliament and vote once his period of election is over.
Therefore, the current Prime Minister, even while performing the duties of an Acting President, is completely within his rights to continue attending Parliament and voting on all issues before the Parliament.
Trying to force a no confidence vote by playing a game of numbers in Parliament is a flawed and ineffective tactic by the opposition party. It is not a mature political strategy. The PM’s right to sit in his lawfully elected seat in Parliament is a legal act, enshrined in law, and cannot be prevented just because he is performing another legal act of acting as President while the President is away.
As such, the hugely unpopular no confidence vote will fail in parliament. It has already failed in public opinion.
