Last weekend, overseas based Guyanese motor racer, Leroy Cort, who competes in the superbike division, performed creditably with two impressive podium finishes in the regional finals of the Championship Cup Series (CCS) at the Homestead Speedway in Florida, United States.
In a correspondence Cort shared with Kaieteur Sport, the talented rider posited, “I secured a second and a third in the Heavyweights Class and was able to clinch the titles in the Heavyweight Supersport and Superbike class which is restricted to motorcycles up to 750cc. I was also able to finish ninth in the overall points, among 120 competitors.”
Cort explained that the real challenge during the meet was the fact that temperatures during the weekend were varying from 30 to nearly 88 degrees but he stayed hydrated and maintained his energy throughout the day with the heavy workload of five completed races in which he finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th, along with a DNF.
“It is always a great feeling to see West Indians at these events, I was garaged with racer Ian Beam from the Virgin Islands and Lloyd Palmer from Jamaica who also managed podiums all weekend in every race they entered. These racers were unaware of the racing in the Caribbean and plan to take a trip to Guyana in November of 2019, for the Caribbean Motor Racing Championships (CMRC) final leg,” Cort gleefully shared.
Among Cort’s plans for the 2019 motor racing season is competing at the Guyana’s South Dakota Circuit as well.
“I was lucky to find a sponsor willing to purchase a motorcycle to be based in Guyana this coming year. This will ensure I make the CMRC tour as well as the local GMRSC (Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club) events in Guyana and still be able to ride here in the USA for the Loudon Road Racing Series Championship”, Cort also mention that everywhere he goes, he flies the flag of his homeland, Guyana which he is proud to represent.
