Residents of Charity on the Essequibo Coast continue to bemoan the poor services offered by Guyana Water Inc. [GWI], after being left without potable water for a number of days.
Residents who live within the Charity Housing Scheme, on the Essequibo Coast, are at present without potable water after three days. Charity is a port of entry located in the north/west end on the Essequibo Coast.
With a population of some 6000 residents along with the establishment of new prime businesses, the community is quickly thriving commercially.
A number of residents were forced to take alternative measures to obtain potable water. Those who could not afford on the other hand, were left no choice but to use the canal for bathing and washing, while others waited on the rain.
Residents are also claiming that to date, the Guyana Water Inc. has not issued any statement on the issue, stating why there is the unavailability of water. When contacted, GWI explained that the company in Charity had developed a major problem with the submersible pump.
The company further indicated that its engineers are working around the clock to restore the operation.
GWI said that while they are hoping that the pump will be running at a normal state very soon, another pump in Walton Hall will be interconnected to serve Charity.
