Concacaf Disciplinary Committee issues decision in the BFA Player Eligibility Cases Guyana moves to 8th in the table

Miami – The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) yesterday announced its Disciplinary Committee has decided to sanction the Barbados Football Association, by declaring as a forfeit the Concacaf Nations League Qualifying match played against Guyana, on September 6, 2018.

After due examination of the evidence, the Committee determined that the Barbados Football Association infringed the applicable articles of the Tournament Regulations and the Regulations Governing the Application of the FIFA Statutes in relation to the eligibility of players to play for representative teams by fielding ineligible players Hallam Hope and Krystian Pearce.
In accordance with articles 55 and 31 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, the Barbados Football Association is considered to have lost the match against Guyana by a score of 3-0. The result of the match played against El Salvador on October 13, 2018 is upheld in accordance with article 31 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, with a score of 3-0 in favor of El Salvador.
President of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Wayne Forde offered a comment on the ruling: “We acknowledge Concacaf ruling with mixed feelings – this is clearly not the preferred manner to advance in any competition but the GFF must also play by the rules. We all remember the famous or infamous hand of God goal that brought Argentina a FIFA World Cup – Luck is sometimes on the side of the brave. It is now up to us to grasp this opportunity and create history for all of Guyana.”
With this decision – following a protest from the GFF – Guyana has now moved up to the eight place in the points table with two wins and a loss for six points. They are behind leaders Curacao, Haiti, Canada, Cuba, Jamaica, Martinique and Bermuda in that order.
St. Kitts & Nevis is 9th followed Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and French Guiana to close out the top 12.
Guyana will play its final match of this stage on March 23rd, 2019 at the Leonora Track and Field Stadium.
At the end of the third week, Curacao, Haiti, Canada, Cuba, Jamaica and Martinique occupy the first six positions to play in the A-League and have a direct ticket to the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup. Bermuda, Guyana, Saint Kitts and Nevis and Dominican Republic will look to lock down the final four Gold Cup spots in March.
Other teams that remain in the hunt in March for a direct ticket to the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup are: Nicaragua, French Guiana, Belize and El Salvador. Without a doubt, March will be a month full of emotions as CNLQ comes to a close.
