From a survey recently done it was discovered that many of the private security firm’s/companies are not paying their security guards the minimum wage of $255 per hour.
One stunning revelation was that a firm which is in the business for over two decades is paying its guards $120 and $202 per hour. Further probing revealed that year after year the guards are promised the adjustment(s) which never materialize.
Further they were told that the above mentioned rates are paid by the relevant Ministry/Department and in December the difference in rates will be paid retroactive to January of the said year.
In December of the respective years they would receive the retroactive payments ranging from $25,000 to $40,000 which is way below $110,000 which is the least that should be paid to a worker.
Note: 40 hrs per week = 2080 hrs per year by $53.00 (least difference)= $110 240.00
Most of the guards work six twelve-hour shift per week =72 hrs.
What about those being paid $120 per hour?
When they question their payments, they are told that the balance is to pay their NIS & PAYE. Some are being told that they can leave the work.
You and I are aware of the dangers security guards are exposed to, especially at night, so on behalf of these exploited guards many of whom are women I am appealing to the relevant authorities to intervene so that they can get their rightful due for their sweat and sacrifices.
Thank you in anticipation.
Yours truly,
Concerned citizen
