The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS and the Young Warriors Cricket Club on Sunday last were accepted as full members of the Berbice Cricket Board after a 25-0 vote at a Special Meeting. The Meeting which was held at the Board’s Cheddi Jagan Street, New Amsterdam office, was specially requested by five clubs “Rose Hall Canje, Mental Hospital, Guymine, Kildonan and Mt. Sinai. The Berbice Cricket Board Constitution states that once five clubs request a Special Meeting the Board shall hold one within 21 days of the request.
The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS written request for membership was nominated by the Albion Community Centre Cricket Club and Rose Hall Canje Cricket Club, while Young Warriors Cricket Club bid for membership was nominated by Rose Hall Canje and Guymine. Upon receipt of the request, the Berbice Cricket Board appointed a five man committee to undertake an investigation into the Clubs’ suitability to become members. The Committee after visiting the Clubs, then recommended membership. At the Special Meeting, the Clubs supporting the Motion were Police Cricket Club, Upper Corentyne Cricket Association, Berbice River Cricket Association, Kildonan, Port Mourant, Albion Community Centre, Chesney, Rose Hall Canje, Mental Hospital, Mt Sinai and Guymine. The four delegates from West Berbice abstained, while Whim National and Blairmont Community Centre were absent along with one delegate from Albion. The Berbice Cricket Board now consists of thirteen Cricket Clubs and three sub-associations.
The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS was founded in 1990 by three times Guyana and Commonwealth Youth Service Awardee, the St. Francis Community Developers and over the last two decades has been regarded as Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation. The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club has won over 65 major cricket tournaments since 1992, won the Guyana Cricket Board Club of the Year five times and is the only Club in Guyana to have a full strength Female Team. The Club has also produced sixteen National Players, over fifty Junior National Players and over one hundred for Berbice at all levels. Additionally, the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS has used millions of its own funds to assist other cricket clubs and the Berbice Cricket Board. Among the players produced by the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS are Shawn Grant, Neil Williams, Esuan and Royston Crandon, Assad and Abdel Fudadin, Kevlon Anderson, Shemaine Campbelle, Erva Giddings and Sheneeta Grimmond among others.
The Young Warriors Cricket Club has been very successful at all levels in Berbice Cricket. The Club has produced players like Test Player Shimron Hetmyer, Gajanand Singh, Richard Ramdeen, Alex Algoo, Linden Austin, Seon Hetmyer, Sanjay Khan and Kwesi Maltay among others.
