Yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, a 17-year-old boy made an appearance before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and admitted to a charge of robbery with use of violence.
The charge alleged that on the 1 December, 2018 at Industrial Site Ruimveldt, the teen robbed Sohan Bridgelall of two BLU cell phones – a total value of $30,000, wherein violence was used to commit the act.
The remorseful youth informed the court that he resides at ‘B’ Field, South Sophia, with friends. He stated that he is a school dropout and does not know the whereabouts of his parents. He also mentioned that from a tender age, he has been associated with “bad company”.
Police facts stated that on the day in question, Bridgelall was on his way home when he was approached by the teenager and another male. The accomplice held Bridgelall by the neck while the teen removed the cell phones from his pocket.
An off duty police was able to apprehend the defendant and recover the stolen articles. The teen was placed in custody and later charged.
After listening to the prosecution, Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan then sentenced the teenager to four weeks’ community service at the Mayor and City Council or in default he is to spend three months in prison.
