The Guyana National Rifle Association (GuyanaNRA) Smallbore Section on Sunday last held its annual year end Action Pistol Shooting championship at the Timehri Rifle Ranges.

The well attended event consisted of Three Stages that tested competitors in accuracy and speed against the clock and included shooting from standing, kneeling and prone positions; forced reloads and strong arm only shooting from ranges of 10 meters out to 25 meters with 9mm pistols.
At the end of the very competitive championship, Mohamed ‘Arrow’ Qualander (167 points) shot his way to the Overall winner’s trophy with a clinical shooting performance that saw him beating Harold “Top Gun” Hopkinson (163) and Dr. Johan DaSilva (160) into second and third places, respectively.
Other notable performances included James Singh (159) and GuyanaNRA Smallbore Vice-Captain Gordon Richards (155) who placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
The competition also saw participation of shooters in the Junior Class where Brian Backer (119 points) emerged as the top shooter; Jason Cox (98) and Clint McKenzie (92) occupying the second and third places, respectively. Lindsay Baird (91) and Satya Dayaram (86) rounded out the top five positions in this category.
The presentation of prizes was done by Captain Dale Hing who thanked the competitors and Range Officers for their participation which allowed for a safe shoot with no safety disqualifications issued.
