The Port Mourant Training School (PMTC1) continued their dominance in the Volleyball arena by winning yet another competition.
They took top honours when the sixth annual Balram Shane Inter club Volleyball competition organised by the Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA) and sponsored by the Businessman Deonarine Balram of The Balram Shane General store, Rose Hall Town, Corentyne was played at the Albion Sports Complex hard court.
There were three categories of play with competition in the senior, novices and a female matchup between a Berbice selection and Castrol of Demerara.
In the senior category five teams took part namely PMTC1, PMTC2, Rollers of New Amsterdam, Black Bush Polder and Corriverton Jets.
After an intense preliminary round of competition, PMTC 1 and Rollers clashed in the final with PMTC1 easily disposing of Rollers 30-21. For the win PMTC1 collected $20,000 and the Balram Shane Trophy, Rollers received $10,000 and trophy for placing second.
In the Novice category, Black Bush, Corriverton Jets, and No 47 Challengers participated with Black Bush Polder defeating Corriverton Jets 30- 22 in the final. Black Bush received $10,000 and trophy, while Corriverton Jets collected $5,000 and a trophy.
The female match between Berbice and Castrol was an exciting and closely fought encounter with Berbice holding their nerve to win 2-1, the scores being 25-17, 22-25, 16-14. Berbice collected and $10,000 and trophy and Castrol $5,000 and trophy.
Each team that participated and lost collected $5,000 as a goodwill gesture from Mr. Balram.
Mr. Levi Nedd, GVF and BVA President along with the volleyball fraternity would like to thank each and every supporter for their sterling contribution, especially Mr. Deonarine Balram for his supported and continued sponsorship over the years.
