Zeeburg Sports Club and Cornelia Ida have cemented their places in the semi finals of the West Demerara Cricket Association President’s Cup 50-over tournament after recording victories in their respective quarterfinal final games played on Sunday last.
At Joe Vieira Park, Zeeburg SC defeated Independence B by 33 runs. Zeeburg SC made 134 all out in 35 overs after they decided to bat. Balbinder Shivpersaud scored 31 and Mark Jeffrey 20; Paul Parmanand claimed 3-18. Independence B were bowled out for 101 in 29 overs in reply. Colin Williamson got 26 as Ganesh Narine picked up 3-19, Yetesh Dhanpaul 3-29 and Andre Seepersaud 3-32.
At Canal Number Two ground, Cornelia Ida beat Rising Stars by 74 runs. Cornelia Ida took first strike and posted 255-7 after the game was reduced to 40 overs due to rain. Akshaya Persaud struck 10 fours and one six in fine 74; his third consecutive half century, while Richie Looknauth made 38 including two fours and two sixes, Mohammed Wazidali got 32 and Avinash Dhaniram 22. Christian Husbands captured 3-35 and Marvin Chung 2-42. Rising Stars were bowled out for 181 in 32.4 overs in response. Shane Persaud made 46 with eight fours and Shaquille Brisport got 33. Harnarine Bissondyal picked up 3-22, Naveed Ali 2-24 and Richie Looknauth 2-32.
The semi final will be played on Sunday. Independence Sports Club will take on Zeeburg SC at Joe Vieira Park (A. Ramgobin and Andrew Singh) and Cornelia Ida will play Mac Gill Super Stars at Wales (Nandkumar Shivsankar and I. Etwaroo).
