Ariel Masters were crowned champions of the Mike’s Pharmacy 15-over softball competition which was contested on Sunday last at Malteenoes Sports Club.
Having won their semi final encounter against Success Masters, Ariel Masters defeated Fishermen Masters by five wickets in the final.
Fishermen Masters batted first and posted 127-7. Suresh Ramdin made 39, Pooran Singh 36 and Sachin Singh 20. Robert Comacho claimed 3-18, Hanoman Singh 2-18 and Manoj Arjune 2-21. Ariel Masters responded with 129-5 in 14.2 overs. Richard Persaud struck three fours and a similar number of sixes in a top score of 46, while Troy Lewis made 30 and Comacho 25.
In their semi final game, Ariel Masters took first strike and managed 186-5. Opener Mohamed Rafeek anchored the innings as he slammed seven fours and eight sixes in an unbeaten 110, while Manoj Arjune contributed 22. Success Masters threatened but were restricted to 172-7 in reply. Vijay Baljit made 38 and Sachin Singh 33. Arjune captured 2-15 and Comacho 2-20.
Fishermen Masters overcame Wellman Masters by 10 runs in their semi final game. Batting first, Fishermen Masters scored 146-8. Z. Asad led with 44, while Suresh Ramdin and D. Thomas made 30 and 17 respectively as Wayne Jones grabbed 4-28.
Jones then struck an unbeaten 68, but it was not enough to take his team over the line as Wellman Masters finished on 136-6. Patrice Stewart made 29 as D. Thomas claimed 3-10.
